Buy extra notifications
Only owners can do thisIncluded in Standard and TeamUpdated 25 Oct 2026
A top-up gives you more notifications for one payment, without changing your plan. Only owners can buy one, and only on Standard or Team. The free trial and Starter do not have the button.
Buy a top-up
- Tap Manage (on a computer, Settings), then Billing.
- On the Notifications balance card, tap Buy top-up.
- Choose a bundle. The one marked Recommended is picked for you.
- Check Total today, then tap Confirm & Pay. Tap Never mind to back out.
- PayFast opens. Pay there.

RateMate shows "Top-up added" and your balance goes up, usually within a minute.
The bundles
| Bundle | Price | Each |
|---|---|---|
| 100 notifications | R99 | R0.99 |
| 250 notifications | R219 | R0.88, save 11% |
| 500 notifications | R399 | R0.80, save 19% |
The dialog also shows how long a bundle should last at your pace this month, for example "At your current pace, 250 notifications last about 6 weeks." It only appears from 3 days into your cycle, and once you have sent something.
How they are used
- Top-ups never expire and carry over into next month.
- RateMate spends your monthly allowance first, then your banked top-ups. Bonus notifications from referrals are kept in the same place.
- Your balance card shows both, for example "40 of 250 plan quota left this month" and "100 banked top-ups (never expire)".
What counts as a notification is in Plans and prices.
When the warning appears
When your plan allowance and banked notifications add up to 25 or fewer, a yellow strip at the top of the card reads Running low, with how many are left. The dialog title also shows the number left. It is a nudge, not a cut-off. Requests only stop at 0. See Why can't I send a request?.
Topping up every month?
On Standard, the dialog always points out that Team has a much bigger monthly allowance. Tap Compare Team to see the plans. If you are already on Team, you do not see this.
Good to know
- Buy top-up is hidden while your status is Cancelling, Payment overdue or Ended (read-only). Top-ups are not refundable, and you could not use them once your plan ends or while it is paused. Your balance still shows. See If a payment fails.
- Top-ups are not refundable once added, except for billing errors. See ratemate.co.za/refunds.
- Buying a top-up does not change your plan or your renewal date.
- If your plan has been cancelled or has lapsed, see Change or cancel your plan.
