Walk-in ratings
Updated 25 Oct 2026
A walk-in rating starts with your customer, not with a message from you. They scan your QR code or open your walk-in link and rate you on the spot. You set the code up under Your QR code and walk-in link.
What your customer sees
The page looks like your rating page, with your logo and the same question and stars. RateMate has no message to match it to, so it asks for a few details.
- They tap a star from 1 to 5.
- A comment box and three fields appear: Your name, Your phone number and a consent tick.

- They tick the box. It says your business may store their name and number to follow up on their feedback and ask about future service, that they can opt out at any time, and it links to the privacy policy.
- They tap Send feedback.
The name, number and tick are all required. They then land on the usual thank-you page.
Rate on WhatsApp instead
If WhatsApp sending is switched on, the page also shows Rate on WhatsApp instead above the stars, with "or rate below" under it. It opens WhatsApp with a short message ready to send. Your customer taps send, and RateMate replies in the chat. If it does not know their number, it asks for their name first. See What your customer receives.
Scanning twice
If a customer on WhatsApp scans again while a request from the last 48 hours is still unanswered, RateMate asks whether the rating is for that job or a new job. They tap That job to rate the open request, or A new job to start a fresh rating.
Once someone has rated, scanning again gives them nothing new for a day:
- On the web page they see "You've already sent feedback recently" and are asked to try tomorrow.
- On WhatsApp RateMate replies that it already has their rating for today.
What it costs and what you get
Walk-in ratings use none of your monthly notifications, because RateMate sends no message to start them. They work on every plan, including Starter.
Each new rater is added to your customer list as a walk-in. A number you already have keeps its saved name, and a customer who opted out stays opted out.
When it is paused
If your subscription has lapsed, the page says "Thanks for thinking of" followed by your business name, and that you are not collecting feedback at the moment. If you replaced your link, an old code shows "Link not found". See My customer says the link doesn't work.
